Performance and Weight Management

To help patients reach their optimal health, Cloudberry offers in-office assessments paired with expert analysis and treatment plans for patients at any age or physical ability.

Seca Body Composition Analysis

Seca Medical Body Composition Analysis is a non-invasive device that combines clinical-grade body composition with cloud analytics to provide a clear picture of your body’s fat vs. muscle ratio, hydration balance and more. For patients focusing on building strength or losing weight – including those taking GLP-1 weight-loss therapy – this simple assessment helps you determine a baseline, then track your progress toward gaining vital muscle and/or losing unwanted fat.

Body weight tracked on a conventional scale provides only one piece of the health puzzle. The SECA scan offers a detailed look at what’s happening as you follow your treatment plan, providing valuable information for how to adjust as needed as well as reinforcement that you’re on the right path.

What to Expect

The scan itself is simple, quick and completely noninvasive. You’ll stand on the medical-grade SECA device and hold the hand electrodes while a safe, painless electrical signal passes through your body. The device measures how the signal travels through muscles, fat, fluids and cells – and because different types of tissue conduct electricity differently, the scan can generate highly detailed information about your body composition.

Within minutes, you’ll get a report on the makeup of your body, including:

  • Fat mass – the amount of fat compared to total body composition, one of the risk indicators for diabetes and cardiovascular disease

  • Fat-free mass – everything in the body that is not fat mass, including water, muscle and bone

  • Skeletal muscle mass – the muscles used actively to move the body

  • Visceral adipose tissue – distribution of fat surrounding the abdominal muscles, which is linked to metabolic and cardiovascular disease risks

  • Appendicular skeletal mass – connective tissue, muscle mass and water, used to diagnose malnutrition or lack of muscle

From this information, you and your provider can understand your body’s fat vs. muscle makeup and create a treatment plan for bringing your physical health into balance.

VO2 Max Testing

Maximal oxygen uptake – VO2 max – is an indicator of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. Cloudberry offers VO2 max testing with the VO2 Master, a wireless device that measures oxygen use during a treadmill workout.

Determining VO2 Max

Oxygen enters the body through the lungs and is loaded onto red blood cells, which are then pumped by the heart to muscles where oxygen is ultimately converted to water to synthesize energy for continued muscle contraction. VO2 max is determined by the efficiency of the lungs, heart and muscles – all the parts necessary for transport, delivery and use of oxygen during exercise.

VO2 max is determined by four key factors:

  • Pulmonary diffusion capacity – The ability of the lungs to uptake large amounts of air and exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide through the alveoli.

  • Cardiac output – The ability of the heart to pump large volumes of oxygenated blood.

  • Oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood – The amount of oxygen that can be transported to the muscles.

  • Skeletal muscle oxygen extraction – The muscles’ ability to uptake and use oxygen.

What to Expect

For the VO2 max test, you are fitted with a wireless ventilator that measures the maximum volume of oxygen your body can consume and use during intense exercise. Guided by a technician, you then begin a programmed treadmill workout at increasing intensities.

Immediately following the assessment, you will receive a report on your cardiorespiratory fitness, personalized training zones and metabolic efficiency. The report shows your results in a set of charts and graphs, including:

  • Cardiorespiratory Fitness Score: You learn your exact aerobic baseline, which compares your heart, lung and muscle efficiency against age and gender norms.

  • Personalized Training Zones: Calculated using your ventilatory thresholds to accurately determine optimal training intensities, based on your unique physiology.

  • Metabolic Efficiency: You discover how well your body uses fat versus carbohydrates at different exercise intensities.

Longevity and Overall Health

Cloudberry advanced testing offers objective data to help make informed decisions for ongoing training and treatment plans. Subsequent testing over time helps you and your providers determine if your cardio, interval training or weight-loss routine is on the right track.

Both VO2 and SECA scores serve as strong physiological predictors of long-term health, risk of chronic illness (like heart disease, stroke, and diabetes) and overall lifespan.
