For those with osteoporosis and low bone mass, one of the keys to reducing the risk of fractures is targeted, high-intensity resistance and impact training. But if working out is not your thing, the prospect of starting an exercise program can seem daunting. The Exercise Lab can help with that.
Personal trainer Christine Jones, creator of The Exercise Lab, is teaming up with physical therapist Laura Lee Bacon to offer Santa Fe's first Onero™-licensed lifting program at The Exercise Lab, located adjacent to the Cloudberry offices at 1650 Hospital Drive, Suite 400. Both Christine and Laura Lee are Onero-certified instructors.
The Onero™ exercise program, created by Professor Belinda Beck, is an award-winning and clinically proven exercise class based on the LIFTMOR trials. These clinical studies demonstrated that supervised high-resistance and high-impact training was not only safe when properly supervised but also improved bone mineral density in postmenopausal women and older men with low bone density. Onero training has been shown to reduce osteoporotic fracture risk, increase bone mass, increase muscle, and improve balance and overall physical function.
Learn more about the program from Belinda Beck herself on Dr. Peter Attia's The Drive podcast.
What to expect at The Exercise Lab
To begin your program, your practitioner will notate your health history and perform an in-depth movement assessment, which will look at your balance, foot health, mobility, and stability. Based on this assessment, you will be matched with a class that is suited to your fitness levels. As a participant in a motivated and intimate group, expect to receive personalized attention and movement homework that will work best for your unique needs.
Classes are 45 minutes, twice per week, with a minimum commitment of one month, eight sessions per month, to ensure a safe progression. Note: If you cannot commit to a class, Christine and Laura Lee can provide one-on-one coaching; this personalized option offers greater personalized attention, especially if for those new to weightlifting.
